I wrote this as God was teaching me about servant leadership this summer. This poem (though it is what I would think Christ would say) represents my desire to live my life like Jesus.
The Savior's Song
7-24-04
And still I ask to be your servant
To wash your feet
and wrap the cloth around my waist
To give my life in place of yours
and cherish you some more
That on that day my back might fray
my flesh be torn away
To give my hands and side and feet
just as I gave my will
To be pierced with iron steel and wood
just as words and spit and mud
To bleed for love and goodness sake
when all my friends have fled away
To be condemned for you my love
and watch my father's head turn' way
And you ask why my love
And you ask why my love
And you ask why
And I will tell you why
That some day you might raise to life
with righteousness in your blood
To watch not all my sacrifices be in vain
To give my spirit as I gave my blood
To see your face as it once was
and watch not goodness fly away
